BE A WOLF - THE PLAYWRIGHT

Merlyn Q. Sell

Be A Wolf is an original script by Merlyn Q. Sell.

Merlyn Q. Sell currently works as the Artistic Director at Black Hills Community Theatre in Rapid City South Dakota. She holds a BA in Theatre from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park California and an MLitt and MFA in Shakespeare and Performance from Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia.

Merlyn has written a handful of plays, which have seen production by a variety of groups, but mainly colleges. She has mentored students in productions of her works at The College of Saint Mary (Sweet Are the Uses), Santa Rosa Junior College (Circus Acts), and Mary Baldwin University (One Woman Town). Her scripts have also been produced by companies such as Actor's Basement in Santa Rosa, California, and most recently, Sweet Tea Shakespeare in Fayetteville, North Carolina, which produced her adaptation of The Odyssey in 2024. Be a Wolf will be her first script to enjoy a performance outside of the United States.

Aside from playwriting, Merlyn is also a theatre director. Some favorite productions include Cabaret (BHCT), The Revolutionists (BHCT), As You Like It (Sweet Wag Shakespeare), and Romeo & Juliet (Actor's Basement). She is supported in these endeavors by two tortie cats and a phalanx of supportive siblings scattered from coast to coast. She looks forward to continued collaborations with exciting and generous artists as the future unfolds.
