FROM FAYETTEVILLE NC TO FESTIVAL FRINGE

Where we are from

Be A Wolf is an original production (written by Merlyn Q. Sell) performed by students from Fayetteville State University (FSU)—a public HBCU (Historically Black College and University) located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA.

Our Students are the Story

The Be A Wolf cast and crew is made entirely of students. They are not just performers—they are actors, writers, designers, stage managers, producers, and marketers.

They rehearsed it. Designed it. Promoted it. They told this story across Fayetteville through pop-up performances, original promotional campaigns, and grass-roots marketing.

The Theatre Program at FSU is small, powerful, and deeply intentional. It values bold storytelling, student ownership, and meaningful impact over spectacle. The result? Theatre that doesn’t just entertain—it challenges, reveals, and resonates.

A Legacy of Vision & Voice

Founded in 1867 by seven Black men committed to education and liberation, FSU is the second-oldest state-supported university in North Carolina. Today, it remains a proud part of the HBCU tradition and one of the most diverse universities in the United States. FSU is committed to developing global citizens—leaders, artists, and change agents—with a deep sense of purpose, responsibility, and cultural insight.

We are proud to be the only HBCU performing at the ICTF showcase during the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Where is Fayetteville, North Carolina?

Fayetteville is a vibrant city in southeastern North Carolina with deep military ties and a growing creative core. It’s a place shaped by resilience and reinvention—home to Fort Bragg (US Army), artists, educators, and community builders. The students of Be A Wolf carry that spirit with them: rooted, driven, and unafraid to tell a story that matters.

This is the first time many of us have been to Edinburgh, or even left the United States.  But it’s not the first time we’ve told a story that mattered.

We’re proud to bring this one to Festival Fringe.  Please join us for Be A Wolf.

Gratitude for our Partners

This journey to Edinburgh is made possible by supporters who believe in the power of student storytelling on a global stage. We are especially proud to recognize the Kenan Charitable Trust for its meaningful support and belief in the mission of Fayetteville State University Theatre.
